Emotional Pain: Endometriosis & Healing Your Yoni

by | Oct 11, 2016

Last weekend I was invited to present at a Red Tent gathering in Hollywood, Florida.

I was presenting a new program I have been working on called Love Thy Uterus, a program encouraging women to tune in to this beautiful part of ourselves. I know it’s part of my mission on earth to teach women to love themselves. Particularly to love their uterus, their womb, their sacred place. Their yoni.

On the outside I had my makeup on and my program ready to go. But on the inside I was a ball of tension. My husband and I had been fighting a lot that week. I was feeling alone, unsupported and worthless. Unappreciated, without value. And this was leading me to want to shop.

I wanted to buy something. Anything.

The more I acknowledged this feeling, the more I realized that my shopping addiction was really a way to hold on to new things. Because these things made me feel valuable. I needed things to make me feel complete. But these possessions were not making me feel happy, just more weighed down and miserable.

This was my darkness. My addiction. My secret desire to shop.

All these thoughts and feelings were circling in my mind as I entered the Red Tent gathering. If you’ve never heard of Red Tent it is a movement to encourage women to gather in intimate gatherings, live in harmony with their cycles, and express their inner truths.

The room was dimly lit with candles and string lights circling the floor. A tent of chiffon red drapes hung around. It was beautiful.

yoni-noun

Forget the V word – this word is so much better

The word “yoni” is a Sanskrit term meaning vagina, womb, sacred space, temple or source of all life. It was originally associated with the Goddess Shakti or Devi, the divine mother and it is one of the most beautiful words I have come across for this female body part that lies between my legs.

In the Red Tent it was beautiful to go around the circle and listen to each of these women share their intimate secrets. The yoni is such a private place it can be hard to share experiences about your painful periods, sexual experiences, pregnancies or losses. But as we went around the room slowly I felt us all opening up and grounding down. Like beautiful flowers with deep roots. We started listening and sharing our truths. Tears were flowing. It was magical.

The tension I had felt before walking in the room was now melted away. I felt alive, inspired, creative and joyful!

One of the things that came up for me was my endometriosis pain. I was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2011 and ever since I have been seeking natural and holistic cures to endometriosis symptoms. One of the discoveries I have made after speaking to dozens of endosisters is the emotional pain we carry in our yonis. We carry this stress, pain, trauma, anger until it makes us sick. It causes endometriosis pain to get worse.

One of the best things to do for endometriosis pain is learn how to go with the flow. Let go of the past. Let go of trying to control the future and flow in the present moment.

What emotional pain are you holding onto?

If you have endometriosis, for a moment take a deep breath and close your eyes. Do you feel your yoni? Your uterus? Your ovaries? How do they feel? Are you squeezing them or tensing them up? Let those muscles go. Let them breathe. Is there darkness there? Imagine your uterus filling with light.

Endometriosis pain can be intense and what do we do when pain is intense? We clench our muscles. We fight. We grit our teeth. I’m going to ask you to do something radical for your endometriosis. I’m going to ask you to sit with the pain. I’m going to ask you to lay in a warm bath and allow the blood to flow out of you naturally and in a relaxed fashion. As this happens envision you are becoming one with the earth. Just be in the flow and go with the flow.

Attending the Red Tent

The Red Tent gathering gave me so many wise insights. I can’t wait to go again. When I left I really felt tuned into this dark, mysterious, lovely, beautiful thing we call a uterus. I saw just how beautiful my own yoni truly was and I realized its intrinsic value. I honored myself and it felt so good.

Now I am even more ready to continue on my life’s purpose: to help women love themselves and overcome the pain of endometriosis and PCOS.
